Joss Ware | Borders Media

So it’s not exactly a secret that I’m a big fan of Joss Ware‘s debut book, Beyond the Night, which releases today.  (And which I highly recommend.) If you’d like to find out more about the book, and about Joss (who also writes as Colleen Gleason), check out a video interview she did with Sue Grimshaw for the Borders True Romance blog.  (And psst– at the 9:40 mark I get a very nice shout-out.)

Giveaway winners– Countdown to SAY and Beyond the Night

Thanks to everyone who participated in both of last week’s giveaways!  And thanks as well to Joss Ware, for stopping by to tell us about her wonderful debut, Beyond the Night, and for generously donating a signed copy of the book.  So without further ado, let’s get down to the winners of both giveaways.

The winner of the signed copy of Beyond the Night is. . .

LISA!!!

And now for the Countdown to Something About You giveaway… I have to say, I loved reading all your guesses.  Some of you put some serious thought into this! So first the answer: the photograph at the top of this blog was taken (by myself) at the Il San Pietro hotel in Positano, Italy.  In accordance with the posted rules of the giveaway, everyone who guessed Positano as the correct city was entered to win. (Meaning you didn’t have to guess the hotel to be entered, although if you did, you were entered and get extra super-sleuth points.  😉  )  So with that said, the winner of the $25 gift card is. . .

JULIE!!!

Congrats to both winners!!  Both of you should email me at info@juliejamesbooks.com with your snail-mail addresses.  And Julie: please let me know whether you would prefer a gift card to Amazon, Borders, or Barnes & Noble.

And be sure, everyone, to check back throughout this month and February.  As the countdown to the release of Something About You continues, so will the giveaways…

Happy reading!

Giveaway– Countdown to Something About You

**Please note: the giveaway is now closed.  Winner will be announced soon.

It’s not that far away now–my next book, Something About You, releases March 2nd.  For those of you who haven’t seen this, here’s a brief description:

FATE HAS THROWN TWO SWORN ENEMIES. . .

Of all the hotel rooms rented by all the adulterous politicians in Chicago, female Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron Lynde had to choose the one next to 1308, where some hot-and-heavy lovemaking ends in bloodshed. And of all the FBI agents in Illinois, it had to be Special Agent Jack Pallas who gets assigned to this high-profile homicide. The same Jack Pallas who still blames Cameron for a botched crackdown three years ago—and nearly ruining his career…

. . .INTO EACH OTHER’S ARMS

Work with Cameron Lynde? Are they kidding? Maybe, Jack thinks, this is some kind of welcome-back prank after his stint away from Chicago. But it’s no joke: the pair is going to have to put their rocky past behind them and focus on the case at hand. That is, if they can cut back on the razor-sharp jibes—and smother the flame of their sizzling-hot sexual tension…

_________________________

Now here’s the giveaway part:  Something About You opens with Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron Lynde, who’s had a rough couple of months at work.  She decides to treat herself to a night of R&R at a luxury hotel, but things don’t exactly go as planned.  To say the least.  You can read an excerpt of the book here to see just how wrong things go for our intrepid heroine.

Because a hotel room plays such a pivotal role in the book, I decided to have some fun.  Here’s the question: the photograph at the top of this blog (the one of the patio with the tables, flowers and trees) was taken at a hotel Mr. James and I vacationed at.  I’ll give a $25 gift card to Borders, Barnes & Noble, or Amazon (at the winner’s choosing) to one random person who leaves a comment below correctly identifying the location of the hotel.

Here’s how the contest will work: I’ll choose a winner among anyone who correctly identifies the city where the photo was taken. If no one identifies the city, then I’ll choose a winner among those of you who correctly guessed the country.  If no one identifies the correct county, then I’ll choose a random winner among everyone who entered.  One guess per person please.

Want a hint?  The hotel is built into the side of a cliff and faces a large body of water. And they have a dog named Bette who escorts you to the lobby when you arrive. She greets you at the boat dock (that’s another hint), rides the elevator with you, and takes you to the front desk.  No joke.

The contest will remain open until 10pm CST on Sunday, January 10th.

Good luck!

Please note: friends and family of Julie James and Mr. James are not eligible for the giveaway.

Psst–be sure to check out my other giveaway, where you can enter to win a signed copy of Joss Ware’s fantastic debut release, Beyond the Night.  Details here.

Giveaway–Beyond the Night by Joss Ware

**Please note: the giveaway is now closed.  Winner will be announced soon.

As I posted a couple weeks ago, in March I’ll be doing a book signing in Chicago with several other authors, including Joss Ware (who also writes as Colleen Gleason). Joss Ware’s first book, Beyond the Night, releases January 12th.

A man with no future…

When Dr. Elliott Drake wakes from a mysterious fifty-year sleep, the world as he knew it is gone. Cities are now desolate, and civilization is controlled by deadly immortals. Stranger still is Elliott’s extraordinary new “gift” – he has the power to heal, but it comes with fatal consequences.

A woman with a past. . .

Jade barely escaped the immortals and is now hell-bent on revenge. She trusts no one… until Elliott. His piercing gaze and tempting touch shatter her defenses, but the handsome doctor seems to have dangerous secrets of his own. Is it safe to trust him with her heart?

If they are to survive in this dark new world, Jade and Elliott must work together to fight the forces that takes them beyond danger.

Beyond desire.
Beyond the night.

I hate to brag, but I’ve read Beyond the Night and I LOVED it.  Joss describes the series as HEROES meets LOST meets I AM LEGEND. With zombies. And romance. In a post-apocalyptic setting.  Ha–if I had a dime every time I read that. . . I’d have, um, a dime.

Seriously, Beyond the Night is fantastic.  The world building is incredible, the romance is sizzling, and the story is original and captivating.  There’s a scene in an abandoned shopping mall that. . .  well, I won’t give it away, but let’s just say I was at the edge of my seat.  This is definitely one of those books you’ll stay up late to finish because you won’t want to put it down.  I can’t wait to get my hands on the next book in the series.

Sold yet?  Well, it’s somebody’s lucky week, because Joss has generously donated a signed copy of Beyond the Night as a giveaway to one of you.  And she’s going to try to drop by if anyone has any questions about the book or the series.  One random commenter will win the signed copy of Beyond the Night–all you have to do is leave a question for Joss, or tell us what hooks you into a new series, or just say how excited you are to check out this book.  The contest will be open until 10pm CST on Sunday, January 10th.

And be sure to check out the other contest I’m running, where I’m giving away a $25 book store gift card to one random person who correctly identifies where the photograph at the top of this blog was taken.  You can enter the contest here.
