RT BookLovers Convention–the photos

So y’all know how bad I am at remembering to take photos at these things. Luckily, other folks are much better at that, so I’ve  stolen–er, grabbed–a few pics from them.

I’m having a blast hanging out with readers and authors at the RT BookLovers Convention. But can I just say, 35 degrees and snow in Kansas City? Someone needs to tell Mother Nature that it’s May.

Where I’ll be at the RT Convention

I’m leaving on Tuesday for the RT Convention in Kansas City (yay!), and I wanted to give those of you attending a heads-up to where I’ll be.

On Thursday, I’ll be part of a panel of authors discussing contemporary romance:

GENRE: CONTEMPORARY: THE MANY FLAVORS OF CONTEMPORARY ROMANCE
From the grown-up boy next door to the small-town girl trying to make it in the big city, contemporary romance has it all. Authors discuss their distinct approaches to the genre, along with the differences and similarities between romantic comedy, small-town romance, urban romance and women’s fiction.

Date: Thursday, May 2, 2013 – 11:15am – 12:15pm
Captain: Louisa Edwards
Panelist(s): Julie James, Ruthie Knox, Brenda Novak, Jill Shalvis, Roxanne St. Claire
Location: Mezzanine Level
Room: Empire B

Then on Saturday, I’ll be signing books at the Giant Book Fair. Here’s the info on that:

“Meet more than 400 authors who will autograph books, posters and bookmarks. Bring your “keepers” and have them signed!

The Saturday Giant Book Fair ticket is included in the full general convention registration fee.

This event is also open to the public and can be purchased as an individual ticket for just the Giant Book Fair. You can purchase a ticket at the door the day of the event. Pre-ordered tickets will be picked up at the hotel on the day of the Giant Book Fair.

You may bring in your books from home to get them autographed, however, they must be checked in and stamped (invisible ink so no damage to your books) before you enter the book fair. Also only two books from home per author are allowed.

Date: Saturday, May 4, 2013 – 11:00am – 2:00pm
Host(s): RT Book Reviews
Location: Mezzanine Level
Room: Exhibit Hall A”

Here’s a link to the list of authors attending. Hope to see many of you this week!

RT convention photos (don’t laugh)

Okay, so if you haven’t realized this about me already, I’m the worst about taking photos at these writers’ conferences.  But I had an amazing time at the RT BookLovers convention, connecting with both readers and other authors, so I thought I’d share the little I have.

First, let’s start with the good stuff.  Here’s a great photo taken by Benita, a reader who dropped by my table at the book signing.

Next, I grabbed this picture off Twitter that was taken by Beth Kery, when a bunch of us went downtown for dinner.  That’s Nalini Singh in the background there, getting ready to steal some of my frosting.

And now for the one photo that I took, the one time I actually remembered to pull out my phone and take a picture.  I think this speaks volumes about me:

A piece of chocolate cake as big as my head.

Seriously, it was that huge.  That’s Louisa Edwards’s hand there, for scale.

So there you have it, the photo journal of my RT experience.  I met lots of awesome readers, hung out with super-cool readers, found out that About That Night made the NY Times and USA Today bestseller lists, and ate lots and lots of chocolate cake.  Oh, and then my dad stopped by the book signing as a surprise and told people coming up to my table that he’s my dad and that I’m a “really nice person.”  (Thanks, Dad!) Then he ran off to get a book signed by Sue Grafton.

All in all, a pretty great four days.

Edited to add: Yay! After posting this, another reader, Maria, emailed me the following two photos for my collection. For those of you who haven’t been to an RT or RWA conference, the first photo gives you a glimpse of what one looks like.

Off to the RT Convention!

Whoo-hoo!  Last night I turned in A Lot Like Love to my editor.  Whew– glad to have that off my plate.  Here’s hoping she likes it.

Today I’m packing my bags, and then tomorrow… it’s off to Columbus, Ohio, for the 2010 RT BookLovers Convention!  This will be my first time attending the RT convention, and I’m very excited.  For those of you attending, or in the Columbus area, here’s where you’ll be able to find me:

*Friday, April 30th 10:00-11:00a.m. I’m hosting a Save the Contemporary panel with Jane Litte from Dear Author, Sarah Wendell from Smart Bitches, Trashy Books, and fellow contemporary author Louisa Edwards.  Here’s the description:

“Love the modern take on the age old romance tale? We do and we want to meet with other readers who love contemporary romances. What makes a great contemporary romance truly great? Come share your thoughts and favorites, and make suggestions on what could make contemporary romance even better.”

Oh– and I’ll be giving away 25 copies of Just the Sexiest Man Alive and Practice Makes Perfect during the panel.  So if you’re around, be sure to drop by for a fabulous, fun discussion on contemporary romance.

*Saturday, May 1, 11:00a.m.- 2:00p.m, Giant Book Fair.  I’ll be signing books, along with about 300 other authors.  Registered conference members can attend for free, and the event is also open to the public for a $5.00 fee.  The full lists of authors attending the signing can be found here.

Beyond that, I’ll be attending many of the workshops and author events–and of course the parties, too.  Looking forward to seeing many of you there!
