Where I’ve Been and Where I’ll Be (at RomCon)

Just got back last night from a family vacation–Mr. James got a short “furlough” from the Big Case he’s working on and we decided to treat the Little Guy to some fun.  Any guesses where we went?  Here’s a hint:

Ah, Disney World with a three year-old. . . there’s no experience quite like it.  Yes, the Little Guy had his moments–what three year-old doesn’t?–but we had a fantastic time.  Although I would like to have a word with the Disney “imagineers” about one thing–do we really need a gift shop stocked with TOYS after every ride??  Help a parent out here, guys.  : )

Later this week, I’m off to Denver for RomCon.  For those of you attending the conference, I thought I’d post the schedule of places you can find me:

Saturday, July 10th: 12 PM Book Fair–Open to the Public

Saturday, July 10th: 2:30 PM Mix and Mingle with Contemporary Romance Authors, including Autumn Piper, Catherine Anderson, Cathy Maxwell, Deb Werksman, Elizabeth Hoyt, Jeanne C. Stein, Jodi Thomas, Julie James, Lori Wilde, Meg Benjamin, Susan Crandall, Susan Donovan & Leanne Banks

Saturday, July 10th: 3:30 PM The Perfect Heroine: What makes a heroine a woman you can identify with? Do you prefer them to be perfect, slender, gorgeous, and supremely self-confident? Or do you prefer them to have some flaws and feel self-conscious in some situations. Sexually active or more discerning? Financially successful or struggling in an ordinary job to make ends meet? Sexy underwear or plain? What types of heroines appeal to you? Come share your thoughts with Catherine Anderson, Cathy Maxwell, J L Wilson, Julie James, Sally MacKenzie, Susan Donovan.

Sunday, July 11th: 9 AM Speed Date a New Author–Session 3 Have a flash visit with your favorite authors or new-to-you authors and decide for yourself if you’d like to check out their books.  Some of the authors participating are Amanda McCabe, Cindi Myers, Deeanne Gist, Jeaniene Frost, Julie James, Karen Jones, Lavinia Kent, Lori Foster, Meagan Hatfield, Melissa Mayhue, Sally MacKenzie, Tara Janzen, and Terri Garey.

Of course, I’ll be around throughout the conference, attending panels/workshops, the awards ceremony (psst–Practice Makes Perfect was nominated for Best Contemporary) and other events, but those are the places you can find me for sure.

Hope to see some of you there!

Off to the RT Convention!

Whoo-hoo!  Last night I turned in A Lot Like Love to my editor.  Whew– glad to have that off my plate.  Here’s hoping she likes it.

Today I’m packing my bags, and then tomorrow… it’s off to Columbus, Ohio, for the 2010 RT BookLovers Convention!  This will be my first time attending the RT convention, and I’m very excited.  For those of you attending, or in the Columbus area, here’s where you’ll be able to find me:

*Friday, April 30th 10:00-11:00a.m. I’m hosting a Save the Contemporary panel with Jane Litte from Dear Author, Sarah Wendell from Smart Bitches, Trashy Books, and fellow contemporary author Louisa Edwards.  Here’s the description:

“Love the modern take on the age old romance tale? We do and we want to meet with other readers who love contemporary romances. What makes a great contemporary romance truly great? Come share your thoughts and favorites, and make suggestions on what could make contemporary romance even better.”

Oh– and I’ll be giving away 25 copies of Just the Sexiest Man Alive and Practice Makes Perfect during the panel.  So if you’re around, be sure to drop by for a fabulous, fun discussion on contemporary romance.

*Saturday, May 1, 11:00a.m.- 2:00p.m, Giant Book Fair.  I’ll be signing books, along with about 300 other authors.  Registered conference members can attend for free, and the event is also open to the public for a $5.00 fee.  The full lists of authors attending the signing can be found here.

Beyond that, I’ll be attending many of the workshops and author events–and of course the parties, too.  Looking forward to seeing many of you there!

Back Cover Copy for Book 3 (and a book signing)

Exciting stuff– Berkley sent me the draft back cover copy for Book 3 (the summary of the book that goes on the back cover) and I really like it!   It’s only a draft, so this could be tweaked a little, but here it is:

FATE HAS THROWN TWO SWORN ENEMIES…

Of all the hotel rooms rented by all the adulterous politicians in Chicago, female Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron Lynde had to choose the one next to 1308, where some hot-and-heavy lovemaking ends in bloodshed. And of all the FBI agents in Illinois, it had to be Special Agent Jack Pallas who gets assigned to this high-profile homicide. The same Jack Pallas who still blames Cameron for a botched crackdown three years ago—and nearly ruining his career…

…INTO EACH OTHER’S ARMS

Work with Cameron Lynde? Are they kidding? Maybe, Jack thinks, this is some kind of welcome-back prank after his stint away from Chicago. But it’s no joke: the pair is going to have to put their rocky past behind them and focus on the case at hand. That is, if they can cut back on the razor-sharp jibes—and smother the flame of their sizzling-hot sexual tension…

So there it is… I hope to have more to share in the upcoming weeks– like the title (we have a potential title, but haven’t finalized it yet) and the front cover art.  Always fun, these stages where the book all starts to come together.

In other developments, I wanted to mention that I’ll be doing a book signing on August 2nd with fellow Chicago author Beth Kery.  I’m really looking forward it!  Here’s the information, so if you’re in the area on August 2nd, drop on by:

August 02, 2009    1:00-3:00PM
Best Sellers Book Store
6509 W. 127th St.
Palos Heights, IL

Just got back from Lori Foster’s 5th Annual Readers and Authors Get Together in West Chester, Ohio.  This was my first time attending the conference, and I had such a blast!  I had a great time meeting both readers and authors alike.  I took a few photos, so here goes:

Toni Blake

Author Toni Blake, in line to purchase Just the Sexiest Man Alive.  And I just so happened to be about five people in line behind her, waiting to purchase a copy of her newest release, One Reckless Summer, which I can’t wait to read.  Funny coincidence!

All in all, a great time.  Oh– and I even won a raffle basket!  Can’t wait for next year.

Off to Lori Foster’s!

on the roadTomorrow morning I’m off to Lori Foster’s Author/Reader Get Together!  Can’t wait–this will be my first year attending.  I’m so looking forward to hanging out with everyone.  It’s a great line-up of authors, and there’s a booksigning on Saturday that’s open to the public.  So if you haven’t registered but will be in the Cincinnati area, come on by!  And I can’t wait to meet those of you who will be there.

Check out the author line-up here.
