Coming up for air–what should I read?

Whew!  Last Friday, I heard back from my editor re: Book 4, A Lot Like Love, which she is very pleased with.  (Yay!)  She had a couple of minor notes, which I worked on these past couple of days.  I’m happy to say that earlier this afternoon, I emailed the revised manuscript off to her.  (Another yay!)  In theory, I’m done until it’s time for copy edits.  I hope.

Which means that it’s time for me to move on to. . . Book 5!  I’m really excited to get going on the new book–the hero in Book 5 is introduced in A Lot Like Love, and I think his story is going to be a lot of fun to write.  And now that I’m done with A Lot Like Love I finally have time to read again!!

I just finished up my book club book, Girl in Translation by Jean Kwok, which I really enjoyed.  So I’m trying to decide what to read next. . . and thought you guys might be able to help me out.  I pulled a few books from my TBR shelf that caught my eye:

Any recommendations?  I think I might be leaning toward Slow Heat by Jill Shalvis–since it centers around a baseball team that seems like a good one to read before the summer is over.  But I’d love to hear what you guys think!

Fun with Revisions (and a mini-rant)

So I’m plugging along with the revisions for A Lot Like Love. . .

I’ve finished revising the first half of the book and it hasn’t fallen apart yet, so that’s good.  Actually, I’m really liking the changes–it’s amazing how stepping away from a manuscript for a few weeks can give you a new perspective on things.  Among other things, I changed the first kiss.  Important to get that one right–the first kiss says a lot, doesn’t it?

On another note, I’ve received all sorts of great news from my editor this week. Both Just the Sexiest Man Alive and Practice Makes Perfect have gone into a third printing, and Something About You is about to go into a second printing after only three months. Yippee!  And I have other news about Berkley, but, well, the superstitious side of me won’t say anything until everything is final.  But things are good on the publishing front. : )

And more fun stuff: I was lucky to receive an advance copy of Fatal Affair by Marie Force, one of the books being released by Carina Press as part of its June launch.  I just started the book and am really enjoying it so far. It’s great to have a good book to turn to after a long day of revisions!

Finally, on a totally random note, is anyone else watching So You Think You Can Dance this season?  Usually, I really look forward to SYTYCD as one of my fun summer shows, but I’m not liking the changes they made this season.  Still haven’t figured out the point of bringing back the “all stars”.  They don’t actually compete, they don’t choreograph the routines, so they’re just kind of… stand ins.  Plus, it means there were nine less spots for people who are actually competing, people for whom this competition actually matters.  Humph.

Okay, end of rant.

And don’t even get me started on the Lost and 24 series finales.  Although at least Lost has this going for it:

How about you guys?  What are you reading? Watching? Got any books/television shows/movies you want to rant about?

Tall, Dark and Smoldering?

Quick question:

I need some opinions/suggestions for a A Lot Like Love (aka Book 4): what actor/celebrity would you describe as tall, dark, and smoldering?

Just for fun, I googled “tall, dark, and handsome” and this guy came up:

Would say his eyes are green?  Because the hero in A Lot Like Love has dark hair and green eyes, and I sure wouldn’t mind picturing this guy.  : )

By the way, his name is Eduardo Verástegui, and Wikipedia lists him as a model, singer and actor from Mexico. I think I need to do a little more research on him… for the book, of course.

Book 4 Title (and my current comfort read)

First, big apologies for the state of my blog these past couple of weeks.  Book 4 is due to my editor at the end of the month, and I’m currently working my way (feverishly) through the second draft.  I get this way near the end, and become totally absorbed in the book.  I promise to do better soon!

On days like these where I’m putting in those reeaaallly long hours, I find myself turning to my most comforting of comfort reads.  So earlier this week I read Morality for Beautiful Girls, book #3 in The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith.

Anyone else a fan of this series?  The books are about Precious Ramotswe, owner of the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency in Botswana, and her “adventures as she navigates the cases of her clients and the complexities of her personal life.”  (from the author’s website)  The series is wonderful, charming, often humorous (with a dash of mystery), and captures Africa beautifully.  (I went on safari a few years ago and it was the most incredible trip.)  I highly recommend this series, particularly to women–Precious’s charming insights into men and their behavior never fail to put a smile on my face.  Oh! And they made a mini-series of the books, on HBO, which I plan to treat myself to as a reward for turning in Book 4.

And speaking of Book 4… it appears to be official… my editor confirmed that the title of the book is A Lot Like Love.  Wow–my first title that Berkley has kept!  And I can’t even take credit for it–many thanks to Elyssa Papa for the suggestion.  Hope to have more info to share on the book soon…

In the meantime, I’m curious–what are your most comforting of comfort reads?  Those books you want to sink into after a long day?
