Holiday Giveaway!

Please note: the giveaway is closed.

In the holiday spirit, this weekend I decided to make sugar cookies with my two year-old son.  Now, I’m not exactly what one might call “good” in the kitchen, but normally I’m at least decently capable when it comes to making cookies.  Not this time, apparently.

Those have to be the saddest, most pathetic sugar cookies I’ve ever seen.  But my son and I had fun making them, and he told me they’re “delicious,” so that’s all that matters.  To continue the holiday spirit, I thought I’d run a contest: I’ll give a $25 gift certificate to Borders, Amazon, or Barnes & Noble (at the winner’s choosing) to one random person who leaves a comment below correctly identifying what at least one of these cookies is supposed to be.  The contest will remain open until 8pm CST on Sunday, December 13th.

On another note, the fabulous Katiebabs of Babbling About Books is running a fun holiday contest this week, where, in honor of her pal Mho Fho, you can enter to win your own personal demon sheep.  That’s right, a demon sheep.  Now that is a contest worth checking out.

Happy holidays!

I belive some of those are to be snowmen they all look good though. Now I’m hungry for cookies must go make some.

  2. Elyssa Papa says:

Sadly, this is how my cookies always turn out if I bake. But I don’t bake. I leave that to my younger sister, who’s an absolute genius when it comes to cookies and cakes and all sorts of goods.

So, I’m taking a guess here that some of these cookies were supposed to be: a Christmas tree, snowman, reindeer, snowflakes, and obviously there’s a Ghost of Christmas Cookies in there, too. 😉

  3. Sharon M says:

Looks like some trees, maybe a snowman or two, a gingerbread boy, bells, and snowflakes or poinsettias. There’s one that looks like an angel with her wings. You’re supposed to just say that you helped your 2 year old and then everyone will think the cookies are adorable!

  4. rigmarole says:

I’m pretty sure there’s a snowman, a snowflake, and a Christmas tree in there. I know our angel cutouts were always pretty hard to identify, back in the day.

  5. Anna M says:

2 gingerbread men, a couple of snowmen, a reindeer, a couple of snowflakes and a bell. as well as a tree I think.

He did well for his age, and your a great mom for letting him do it on his own.

    Happy Holidays!

  6. Liz V. says:

I think they have character, because I’ve made my share of “Charlie Brown type” cookies with my daughter over the years. You’ve got snowmen, reindeer, bells and stars.

  7. Linda Henderson says:

I think there are some snowmen a bell and a reindeer. It doesn’t matter what they look like anyway, you are just going to eat them.

  8. Lisa I says:

I see a snowman, a couple of Christmas trees, a couple of gingerbread men, some wreaths and a reindeer. Is it sad that I know what these look like bc I have similar cookie cutters and do a similar job with them? *bg*

  9. Venus Vaughn says:

Those cookies made me laugh out loud! Fantastic 🙂 and the best part is, you don’t have to feel guilty about eating a single one of your masterpieces.

I see snowmen, and snowflakes and christmas trees. Good going.

  10. Shannon says:

Hmm, a snowman, a bell, a Christmas tree, and gingerbread men. They remind me of the sugar cookies of my youth. “Delicious,” but not the first cookies to be set out for company (although, let’s face it, they rarely lasted until Christmas.)

If anyone looks askance, just remind them that you made them with your little man. Baking with the little one makes all kinds of kitchen mishaps cute.

  11. Melissa says:

Well, that one is most definitely a snowman- he’s frowning because he was put in the oven! :o) These are adorable and no doubt yummy.

  12. Alex Draven says:

I see snowmen, christmas trees, snowflakes and – is that a reindeer or a rabbit who’s showed up early for Easter?

And if your son thinks they’re delicious, then I also see fantastic cookies!

  13. Lori says:

Well, the one at the bottom that’s looking like a ghost? Pretty sure that one is a snowman. And I imagine the ones with the red stripes are Christmas trees.

And no worries – your son is right. As long as they are yummy, that’s all that counts!

  14. Liza says:

Looks like some snowmen, gingerbread men, and bells. Sounds like you and your little one had a great time with the cookies. I agree, if they taste great, who cares what they look like.

  15. tennismom mary g says:

    What a cute post!
I can picture you with your hair tied back & your little guy beside you.
In the first picture top right I see Jabba the Hutt. Below him I see the Slime from Ghostbusters. Bet you couldn’t make those if you tried LOL. I also see Christmas trees, a bell and snowmen. You know if they were perfect you won’t remember them in the future. This is way more fun.
Just don’t give me any Rorschach tests OK.

  16. Dottie says:

I’m sure the ghostly shape is supposed to be a snowman or a gingerbread man, but I see a Christmas tree for sure and what could be a Santa. It doesn’t really matter what they look little, it’s all in how they taste, and they look yummy!

    Dottie 🙂

  17. KristiBug says:

One is DEFINITELY a snowman. And another, possibly a Xmas tree. Maybe some ghosts, snowflakes, and, um, a rabbit? Or maybe a dead turkey… Not sure about that one.

But they are cookies. So I would TOTALLY eat that. 🙂

  18. Colleen says:

They are cute. Bet you had fun which is what’s most important.

I see snowflakes, snowmen, gingerbread man, and maybe a bell.

  19. Paula says:

Snowmen, Christmas trees, a reindeer and one that looks like a… cooked Christmas turkey? lol I’m sure they’ll taste great.

  20. Gabriela says:

Definitely some snow men and Christmas trees. At least one reindeer, although it kind of looks like a bunny. Getting ready for Easter already? 😉 j/k.

Baking cookies is fun and no matter what they look like, eating them is the best part.

  21. Amy M says:

Oh man, this one made me laugh right out loud! My kids and I tried to make sugar cookies one year…they turned into ornaments since they were about 3 inches thick and hard as rocks! We painted them and everything.

I would say yours are still perfect!! They look like Christmas trees, reindeer, and snowmen!

    Amy M

  22. Stephanie says:

I definitely see a Christmas Tree in there! Great work regardless! It is the memory of baking the cookies together that counts!

  23. Natasha A. says:

Um, I am going to say that there is a Frosty, and a gingerbread man, some bells, a christmas tree, and a reindeer? Maybe? I think?

  24. Jen says:

Congratulations…I can see you actually let your 2 year-old help make your cookies…which is why they are so nice…and probably why he had fun and is enjoying them! I definitely see silver bells, reindeer, and snowmen. Oh, and a holiday amoeba, too 🙂

  25. Jerry Stewart says:

I see a few snowmen that look like ghosts (like the one in the top picture on the top right corner) and I’m pretty sure that the bottom picture, top, second from the right is supposed to be a Christmas tree, but it looks like the christmas tree from National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Hehe

  26. elaing8 says:

I love Christmas cookies. As long as the kids have fun decorating them and they taste good is all that matters 🙂
    I see reindeer,snowmen,xmas tree

  27. Sarah says:

I definitely snowmen, but I think the snowmen with feet were actually meant to be gingerbread men?

I also see stars and flowers… they’re just rounded stars. 🙂

  28. Lea says:

    LOL Julie;

    You are a good Mom…

There is a snowman there and a reindeer for sure. 😉

I love it and I’m glad you wee one enjoyed.

    Best
    L

  29. Rhonda says:

You gotta speak kid to figure this out, I see christmas bells, snowmen and snowflakes. I have five children so this is norm for me. ha ha.

  30. amber says:

Oh these are just adorable! LOL. I like the snowmen cookies, or gingerbread men, one of the other, or maybe both! 😉 I also like the Christmas Tree cookies. I bet the kids had fun making those!

  31. Molly says:

A couple cookies appear to be Christmas trees, others seem to be snowflakes, and I believe there is a snowman in the mix. I love Christmas cookies!

  32. Jennifer D. says:

What a fun contest – I see Christmas Trees, Reindeer, Gingerbread men and Snowman! I love Christmas baking myself and its usually a ton of fun. I’m glad you fun time baking with your little one.

  33. Hilary says:

Top picture, third one across is a snoman, and in the second picture, top row, third cookie in is a Christmas tree! How cute 🙂

  34. Kara C says:

Those pics crack me up – and make me want to grab my boys and head to the kitchen for some baking fun!
There’s a snowman in there for sure. The rest are open to interpretation! lol

  35. Cathy M says:

I am going with snowman, christmas tree, star, Santa and an ornament. Hey they are made with love, so you know that they will be good no matter what, lol.

    caity_mack(at)yahoo(dot)com

  36. bethkery says:

Happy Holiday Season, Julie, to you and yours.

Well…I don’t want to be entered in the contest, but I’m going to do an interpretation anyway. 🙂 I’m good at them.

Okay….the second photo, big guy, second row down, middle? Um…Darth Vader after Luke removes his mask?

  37. Brandi says:

I see some gingerbread men, Christmas trees, a reindeer…I think they look pretty great for having a two year old’s help! 🙂

  38. TheBunneh says:

I think they are cute! A+++ for EFFORT!

I like the snowflake one in the bottom picture. You can totally tell that’s what it’s supposed to be. And the reindeer is cute too with his sprinkles! And the trees look like trees!

  39. cheryl c. says:

LOL! 🙂 I think I see a Christmas tree, a reindeer, and maybe a snowman. I guess the ghost-looking cookie could be the ghost from Christmas past! When it comes down to it, what counts is the fun you had making them and how they taste!

  40. Maureen says:

I think I saw a snowman. It doesn’t matter what they look like if you had fun (I always told that to my children when they were little).

  41. corinne says:

I see a snowman and a reindeer who look very colorful and sparkly 🙂 Half the fun in making cookies is “messing up” some so you have an excuse to eat it. Have a great holiday!

  42. Fedora says:

Those are beautifully done, Julie! I’m glad you all had fun making them–that, and I’m sure they taste wonderful! I can see Christmas trees, some snowflakes, and some gingerbread people 🙂

  43. Aimee W. says:

Wow…what interesting cookies you baked :o)
    I think I see a snowman, a snowflake, and perhaps a bell.
    Thanks for the great giveaway!

  44. Pearl says:

I see a Chrismas Tree, Frosty the Snow Man, A Star, and I think the one in the right hand corner on the bottom of the second picture might be an Angel….

You know, as long as they tasted good…who cares what they look like 😀

My mom always says: You think it’s going to stay whole and pretty when it’s in your stomach?

I guess she is kinda right…

  45. heideho says:

What wonderful cookies! I see at least two gingerbread men, one snoman, a snowflake or star, two Christmas trees and what looks to be a reindeer who lost a battle with a sleigh (okay, just kidding on the last one). Hope they were delicious. We’re baking some this weekend.

  46. sprite says:

Aww, that sad snowman cookie breaks my heart!

I see some trees, a reindeer, some snowflakes, a couple gingerbread men, a couple of snowmen…

But rest assured that this is just the unleashing of your inner Picasso.

  47. Seanna Lea says:

There are two that look like snowmen, one gingerbread man, and two that are six pointed that appear to be either snowflakes (first guess) or stars.

I think the cookies must have decided to revolt that day!

  48. Renee says:

Oh, thank you for the giggles. I love to cook, but baking isn’t a strong suit of mine, either. Though’ I usually wind up with the cookies spreading into each other to morph into one giant blob.

I think I see a Christmas tree and snowman in there.

    🙂

  49. GSM says:

Those are great. We’ve always decorated sugar cookies for the holidays, too. I see at least one snowman, a Christmas tree and a reindeer. Much of the fun is inventing new things that differ from the norm. I remember the year a friend turned one of the angel cookies upside down, and decorated a beautiful pineapple. You and your son are just very creative cookie decorators!

  50. Jackie says:

Hm…one looks like a sad snowman. One looks like a flower. Another looks like…Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
    …Am I close?
OH! And one of them looks like a pirate gingerbread man. The one with the toothpick sticking out of the leg.

    They look delicious.

  51. Michele P. says:

hmm, a snowman, gingerbread man, bell and snowflake would be my guesses! I am not very good in the kitchen, but heck if he loved them and they tasted good that is all that matters…lol. Happy holidays!

  52. Booklover1335 says:

I think they are adorable, and it will be something that you will always remember…and like your son said all that really matters is that they taste delicious.

I see a snowman, a reindeer, a christmas tree, maybe what was supposed to be a gingerbread sugar cookie man, the rest are just amoeba like 🙂

  53. Pam P says:

I could use a plate of the snowmen on my dining room table to go along with my snowman collection, mixed in with a couple of reindeer. Hmm, a snowman ghost, that’s a new one, lol.

  54. Emmanuelle says:

Beautiful cookies !! PLease congratulate your son for me. I can see the shapes quite perfectly : flower, snowman, snowflake… see 😉

    mollytucker(at)hotmail(dot)fr

  55. Gwen says:

Christmas trees and snowman and one looks like this old cutter my mom has of a santa with his pack on his back.

My sister and I used to make cookies purposefully garish because they “always tasted the best.” Of course, my mother was always a little embarassed to put out day-glo iced cookies for her guests at the holidays.

    Happy Holidays.

  56. Ashley says:

They definitely look like snowmen! And a few trees and a snowflake. & your son is right…as long as it tastes good, it’s good 🙂

  57. Sean says:

I am not going to lie, there is a lot going on here. LOL!!! I work with kids everyday and can def. appreciate the fact that your son liked them, despite their appearances. The best cookie I see is the abominable snowman.

    thanks!!!

  58. Sarah says:

the fact you DID something together and were able to enjoy each others’ company is more important than the outcome of what you did. 🙂

i think the flower shaped ones in the second picture are snowflakes. the striped ones in that same picture are bells or christmas trees. i see a gingerbread man and snowman in the first picture.

    sarahjgarraty@gmail.com

  59. Nisha says:

I see snowmen (the one that kinda looks like a tubby ghost), a reindeer(2nd pic bottom right), and Christmas trees (the striped ones). The others look like flowers or peppermints.

And hey, it’s the taste that counts, so no worries. At least the color combination tips them off to be seasonal.
