In the Homestretch…

I certainly have been the most delinquent blogger these days.  And today’s not going to be much better.  🙂

Revisions for Book 3 are due this week, and I’m so close to the end I can taste it.  After that happens, hopefully I won’t be so MIA.  In the meantime, thought I’d share a couple of photos Lea from Closetwriter sent me, of both Just the Sexiest Man Alive and Practice Makes Perfect on the shelf in a bookstore in Burlington, Ontario.  (BTW, I’m in good company there, being next to Eloisa James, Judith James, and Samantha James.)  I’ll tell you, seeing things like this is what keeps me going during these crazy writing times… So thanks, Lea, for the photos!

Read/Seen Anything Good Lately?

Okay, admittedly, I’m swamped with these revisions to Book 3.  And hopefully I’ll have time to write more later in the week, but in the meantime I thought I’d start planning what I’m going to do with all my luscious free time once I’m done with these revisions.  So I thought I’d ask:  read any good books lately?  Seen any good movies?  I’m going to start making my lists now, of all the things I’ll catch up on in a couple of weeks.  I’m so looking forward to it…

twilight posterI’ll start:  the most recent movie I watched was Twilight.  Now, I haven’t read the books, although I’m thinking about it, but I don’t think I got a sense of the depth of the connection between Bella and Edward from the movie.  There were things that happened in the film where I thought, “Hmm… I bet this is a lot more developed/a bigger moment in the book.”  I didn’t dislike the movie, though– just thought it was kind of so-so.

angel_and_buffyAnd–again, haven’t read the books– but does anyone see some similarities with Buffy and Angel?  He can’t have sex with her b/c he’s afraid of losing control?  Boy, if I had a dime every time a vampire said that to me…

In terms of books, I’m making my way (in my .2 minutes of free time each day) through Interpreter of Maladies, which is wonderful.  Pulitzer prize winner, so I guess I kind of expected that.

How about you?

Contest alert: Beth Kery book giveaway

Just thought I’d mention that fellow Chicago author Beth Kery is running a contest on her blog today.  She’s talking about dialogue and Pride and Prejudice, and one random commenter will win a copy of either of my books, Just the Sexiest Man Alive or Practice Makes Perfect, of his or her choosing.  So if you want to enter to win, pop on by her blog and check it out.

Beth is running this contest as part of her month-long promotion for her upcoming release, Sweet Restraint.  Now how’s this for an eye-catching cover?

sweetrestraint

I just popped over to Beth’s website and checked out an excerpt she has of Sweet Restraint and boy–looks like we’re going to have another hot one!  All month long Beth is doing daily book giveaways leading up to her new book release.  So if you can, check it out– because we all love free books, right?

Back Cover Copy for Book 3 (and a book signing)

Exciting stuff– Berkley sent me the draft back cover copy for Book 3 (the summary of the book that goes on the back cover) and I really like it!   It’s only a draft, so this could be tweaked a little, but here it is:

FATE HAS THROWN TWO SWORN ENEMIES…

Of all the hotel rooms rented by all the adulterous politicians in Chicago, female Assistant U.S. Attorney Cameron Lynde had to choose the one next to 1308, where some hot-and-heavy lovemaking ends in bloodshed. And of all the FBI agents in Illinois, it had to be Special Agent Jack Pallas who gets assigned to this high-profile homicide. The same Jack Pallas who still blames Cameron for a botched crackdown three years ago—and nearly ruining his career…

…INTO EACH OTHER’S ARMS

Work with Cameron Lynde? Are they kidding? Maybe, Jack thinks, this is some kind of welcome-back prank after his stint away from Chicago. But it’s no joke: the pair is going to have to put their rocky past behind them and focus on the case at hand. That is, if they can cut back on the razor-sharp jibes—and smother the flame of their sizzling-hot sexual tension…

So there it is… I hope to have more to share in the upcoming weeks– like the title (we have a potential title, but haven’t finalized it yet) and the front cover art.  Always fun, these stages where the book all starts to come together.

In other developments, I wanted to mention that I’ll be doing a book signing on August 2nd with fellow Chicago author Beth Kery.  I’m really looking forward it!  Here’s the information, so if you’re in the area on August 2nd, drop on by:

Back from Lori Foster’s

Just got back from Lori Foster’s 5th Annual Readers and Authors Get Together in West Chester, Ohio.  This was my first time attending the conference, and I had such a blast!  I had a great time meeting both readers and authors alike.  I took a few photos, so here goes:

Toni Blake

Author Toni Blake, in line to purchase Just the Sexiest Man Alive.  And I just so happened to be about five people in line behind her, waiting to purchase a copy of her newest release, One Reckless Summer, which I can’t wait to read.  Funny coincidence!

All in all, a great time.  Oh– and I even won a raffle basket!  Can’t wait for next year.
