Six-Book Giveaway, Chapter 2– Shiloh Walker!

Note: the giveaway is now closed.  Winner will be announced on Wednesday.

So here we are with Chapter 2 of the six-book giveaway celebration–Shiloh Walker!

I had the pleasure of meeting Shiloh at Lori Foster’s Reader and Author get together. Then we reconnected at RWA and got a chance to hang out a bunch and I have to tell you: Shiloh Walker rocks.  (Which those of you who have read her books already knew, of course.)

Speaking of her books… I was first introduced to Shiloh’s writing with her incredible book, Fragile.

Fragile2

BATTLE SCARRED
Six years after trading in his combat gear for hospital scrubs, Luke Rafferty still hasn’t found what he’s been searching for: a normal life. At his job, Luke is faced with things just as heartbreaking as those on the battlefield, none more so than the abused children brought in by a pretty red-headed social worker.
HEARTBROKEN
For Devon Manning, being a social worker is a rewarding job, but also a constant reminder of her own troubled youth. Devon takes everything one day at a time—unable to form a relationship with anyone except the children she rescues.
A DESIRE TO HEAL…
When Luke meets Devon, he thinks he might have found what he’s been looking for, but in order to get the life he wants, Luke has to break through Devon’s emotional barriers and make her realize that his healing touch might be just the complication her life needs…

_____________

I loved this book.  An emotionally intense and captivating read, I found it impossible to put it down.  Shiloh has such a way of grabbing a reader’s attention and tugging at the heartstrings from the very first page.  And Broken, the twin brother’s story, will be out March 2nd you can bet that I’ll be standing in line at the book store that day to pick it up.

Shiloh very graciously answered some questions about herself and her writing.  Here goes:

JJ: When did you first realize you wanted to write, and how did you get started?

SW: I don’t remember NOT wanting to write… does that count?  The first story I really remember writing was in sixth grade-Mr. K.’s very boring history class.  Since I always read ahead and had the assignments done, I ended up being very, very bored in class, and one day I just started writing a short story called DARK ALLEY.   It sucked.  Rotten eggs.  But I finished it.  It was handwritten, in a notebook, about 35+ pages in purple ink…

JJ: What is it about writing romance and erotica that appeals to you?

SW: I like romance because I love happy endings.  I married my high school sweetheart-we’ve been together since I was 14, and we’ve got three beautiful kids.  There’s never been anybody else for either of us.   Those HEAs are out there~I guess romance is kind of my way of sharing a HEA with others.    Erotica, straight-erotica, doesn’t appeal to me, but I love erotic romance.  Sex is a part of life, and it’s an important part.  I don’t know why I enjoy writing the hotter romances, but that’s just where I gravitate.

JJ: What advice would you give an aspiring writer?

SW: If you say you’ve always wanted to write a book-then write a book.   Worry about the rest later.  Write a book, then write another, and another.  When you’re ready to try and sell one, I think you’ll know it.

JJ: What do you do on those writing days when you’re stressed, worn out, or distracted?

Read.  Edit.  *G*  Twitter.

JJ: What can you tell us about your next release?

Ebook or print?  😉  Next print release from Berkley is HUNTER’S NEED, due out in December.  It’s one of my HUNTER books, and it’s set in Alaska, centered on characters I introduced in HUNTING THE HUNTING-a psychic named Ana, and a shapeshifter named Duke.    Next ebook release in CANDY HOUSES, due out in November from Samhain.  It’s kind of paranormal/urban fantasy romance.  I’m bastardizing fairy tales…

JJ: Fun questions:  What are you watching on TV these days?  What are you reading?

I love Dollhouse.  I love my Buffy DVDs (sob…hated when the series ended).  I love Law and Order: SVU and House.  Reading?  Why, I’m reading Julie James….  😉  Right now, I’m reading Jayne Ann Krentz’ SIZZLE AND BURN.  I’m reading Ann Aguirre’s BLUE DIABLO.  I’m also reading Amber Benson’s DEATH’S DAUGHTER.  Next up, I plan on reading Nora Roberts’ BLACK HILLS, Linda Howard’s BURN, and starting on Jeaniene Frost’s books.

JJ: What are you listening to on your Ipod?

Hmmmm… Clannad, Enya, Evanescence, Sarah McLachlan,  Casting Crowns, 33 Miles, Aerosmith, John Michael Montgomery, Breathe…. *G*  I’ve got eclectic taste.  I listen to contemporary Christian, 80s hard rock, country, new age…

JJ: What is your biggest weakness (shoes, purses, chocolate, etc.)

Oh…purses.  I love purses.  And good chocolate.  Wineries.  Love wineries.  I had a reader give me a bottle of wine at Lori Foster’s event…I told her she was my newest BFF.  😉

JJ: Complete this sentence:  One fun thing about me that people might not know is…

Uh….I test for my student black belt this fall…does that count?

    Hi Julie & Shiloh
Just in case Shiloh isn’t sick of me stalking her blogs I just wanted to say hi. You are one of my absolutely fave authors.
I loved Fragile & The Missing & the all the other SW books I have. I like asking the hard questions on your blog so you might remember that what I like best about your books is that you keep your style but you still surprise me each time. Have fun with Julie. Needless to say – don’t enter me for the contest.
