Note: the giveaway is now closed. Winner will be announced on Saturday.
That’s right, romance fans, we’re back again with another book giveaway– Chapter 3 of the mini-celebration.
For those of you just tuning in, we are celebrating the fact that: (a) I turned in Book 3 (which had kicked my tail, see previous rantings here and here) and (b) my editor really likes it. So basically I’m in a mood to hand out free stuff.
Which brings me to today’s giveaway…
Getting to first base is a cinch…. But getting home will take a grand slam…
Pace Martin is the ace pitcher for the Pacific Heat. He’s got the arm, the experience and the wins. He’s also got the pain, the pressure and the possible end of his career looming over him. The last thing he needs now is a distractions, even if it comes in the form of a tough, beautiful, tell-it-like-it-is writer who sees past his defenses.
Holly Hutchins knows a good story when she sees one, and the tall, dark and slightly attitude-challenged Pace Martin fits the bill. But when she realizes there’s more at stake than just a win, she starts to see the handsome, broad-shouldered jock in a different light.
Pace and Holly begin a seductive game, but in the face of unexpected betrayal and challenges, they’ll have to find the courage to swing for the fences. . .
___________
How appropriate– just yesterday I was at Wrigley Field for a Cubs game. Sad, isn’t it, that baseball players don’t run around the field looking like they do on this cover… Darn MLB rules on the players wearing shirts and all.
I was first introduced to Jill’s writing with her book Instant Attraction. I really enjoyed Instant Attraction– great dialogue, fantastic chemistry between the heroine and hero, and a setting that would make even the least daring of people want to run out and book a wilderness adventure.
I then met Jill Shalvis at RWA, when we were both signing books at the Berkley signing, and she, the awesome gal she is, donated a signed copy of Double Play for this giveaway. I also have a copy of this book sitting in my TBR pile, and I can’t wait to dig in.
Jill is swamped with deadlines right now (boy, have I been there– remember those aforementioned rantings?), but she was nice enough to take the time to answer a few questions nevertheless:
JJ: What advice do you give new authors?
JS: Don’t give up. Don’t EVER give up. But more than that, keep writing. Every. Single. Day. Sit your butt in the chair and write, and if you do, continually honing the skill, it WILL happen for you.
JJ: Tell us a little about your current release.
JS: Current release is Double Play, the first in a fun, sexy series of sports heroes. Out now…
JJ: What are you listening to on your Ipod?
JS: Currently I’m listening to Janet Evanovich on tape. God, I love her.
__________
Thanks, Jill. Some great advice. And I whole-heartedly agree with you on Janet Evanovich–she seriously cracks me up.
So you know the drill, folks. One lucky person who comments below will win a signed copy of Double Play. The contest will run until 10pm CST on Friday.
And on a final note– to go with the baseball theme– here’s a picture I took from yesterday’s Cubs game. What a gorgeous day in Chicago!
Happy reading everyone!
Hi Julie
That’s a terrific picture. Was that where you were sitting or do you just have a good eye or both?
Love Jill’s books. Have read everything except some early one’s before I discovered her. She writes sexy & funny so you’d love her stuff. Her alpha male heroes are irresistible and the women are strong characters too.
Great picture Julie! I wish I was at the Cubs game yesterday, but it’s a little bit of a drive from Nashville. I love all of Jill’s books and can’t wait to read Double Play.
I haven’t been to a baseball game in ages. I haven’t even had a chance to check out the Washington National’s stadium, and it is so nice from the outside. To be honest though, I would rather read about baseball than watch it!
Nice picture, all we’ve been getting here is rain. 🙁 I wish the sun would come out and stay.
Double Play sounds like a great book.
Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago, what do you say? Cubs are going to win today!!! Such a fun stadium!!
I love Jill Shalvis. I am reading Instant Attraction right now, and I love it. It is making me laugh right out loud! Double Play sounds wonderful!
Thanks ladies~

Julie,
I am new to this site, so just read about the 3rd book. I loved the first two books, so naturally I’m thrilled to read you have turned in the third! And doubly glad to see you’re celebrating by giving away such great books.
I love Jill Shalvis’s books. In fact, I started reading Instant Gratification last night. Double Play is definitely on my TBR list as well!
Hi everyone! Kara: welcome! Glad you enjoyed the books. 🙂
Yep, Mary, that’s a picture taken from my seat from yesterday’s game. Cubs beat the Astros 12-0. What was neat about that is that both teams took out their starters by the eighth inning and a bunch of rookies got to play. Lots of players making their “major league debut”, which was fun to see.
I haven’t read a baseball book in forever and I’m liking the cover. Awesome interview too!
Mmmm, baseball players… even if I hadn’t recently discovered the awesome that is Jill Shalvis’s writing, the cover alone would sell me on wanting to read this 🙂
Hey Julie & Jill!!
Julie, sorry but I have to cheer on the Braves. Being an Atlanta gal, I just have to!! LOL! But would love to see a game at Wrigley Field sometime. I love watching the people at sporting events. You can really get a laugh or two.
I have been hearing some wonderful things about this book. I’m looking foward to reading it.
And I have just have say this . . . that cover model’s back is calling my name to come and do some things 😉
Hi Julie!
Thank you for another great giveaway. 🙂 I have Ms. Shalvis’s “Instant” books in my TBR and hope to get to them soon.
I would love to read this one, it sounds excellent. 🙂
Nice picture of Wrigley Field!

Double play sounds like a great read!
Love going to the ballpark to watch a game, her cover its great and looking forward to the read!
Go (Pittsburgh) Pirates!
No, seriously..I can’t even stand them anymore. Trading away good players.
Think the Cubs could handle a fan from Pittsburgh?
I’ve read Jill Shavis. Excellent writer. Full of passion, and fun in her writing. You see, even on printed pages, that she LOVES her writing.
The book looks great and that’s a wonderful picture. My husband and son are going to a minor league game tonight but it is way too hot for me.
Great interview. Love books with athletes. Double Play sounds like my kind of book. Nice cover.
I love the cubs too !! I love sports romance, I find them very hard to resist, so why even try ???
Count me in please !!

I just finished Jill’s “Instant Attraction” last week. It was a great read. “Double Play” sounds awesome, too.
Great interview and what a wonderful pic.
The book sounds great and I love the cover.
I would love to read this book.
Thanks for a chance to win a book.
This is a great read so the winner is going to be one happy camper! Don’t enter me, I just got a little excited when I saw the title! =)
Good luck!
Co Cubs! Great picture from Wrigley. It doesn’t have all the amenities of the new parks but I still love it.
I read Instant Attraction and loved it. I’m looking forward to reading Double Play. Jill’s writing and baseball have got to be a winning combination.
Nice book cover! The story looks interesting, too. 🙂
ver y nice love basball
what a ho t cover JIll
want to visit wrigley
great havin g u here
go Giants!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
we’re not a baseball nation but I’d love to get to see a game.
Oh, I want that book! I love Jill Shalvis almost freakishly! 🙂
I’m wondering if I’ve ever read a book starring a baseball player. I can’t remember any, although there’s been other sports heroes. I keep thinking of Bull Durham instead.
Wow this book sounds amazing!! Please enter me! =)
Even though I’m not a real fan of basball at the park I like to read sports minded books. Don’t get that at all, but there you go. Having grown up in Chicago I still mourn the fact that Wrigley had to add lights. Should they ever tear it down or modernize it more I’ll be truly devastated.
Love the pic.
Ah the Cubs, I doubt there is any other team that has such a loyal following, without winning a pennant in what over a century…well that might be an exaggeration, but still.
I love Jill Shalvis! I love her books, and I love her blog. I just got the newest in the Instant series, and is at the top of my TBR. And Janet E, well I don’t know when the last time I laughed while reading a book as much as Finger Lickin’ Fifteen.
I would love to win Double Play!

Double Play sounds great. Love the cover. Please count me in!
I am from the Pacific Northwest, so I have to cheer on the Mariners!
Your book sounds great.
I have never been to a game, which is normal since we don’t have baseball here, lol. So the only time I see baseball is when i watched movies or tv
If you go to Jill’s blog today you’ll see the cover of her next book called Slow Heat. Talk about heat!!
I’m a Cardinals girl myself so I just can’t root for the Cubs!
Congrats on the great book 3 feedback from your editor, and thanks for the lovely giveaway!
Beautiful day in Chicago yesterday! {{jealous}}.
I love Jill’s work. Read all the _______ and Sexy books and just heard a great review for this one!
Thanks!

Great picture! The book sounds great, would love to read it!
I’ve never read any of her books, but I’ve heard good things!
I haven’t read this book, but I like athletes as a hero.
This seems a fun read!
I like baseball movies does that count? Pride pf the Yankees is my favorite followed bt Field of Dreams and Babe.
Oh my goodness, thanks to the usual insanity of my life, I missed the whole thing. Sorry to be absent, I meant to pop in earlier and thank Julie for having the giveaway, and also just to say hey. So hey!
I would love to win the copy of Double Play. Please enter my name in your draw. Thanks.
